You've had cones neatly laid out for nearly two weeks now

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 17:18, Sunday 24 July 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

For roughly two weeks you have coned off long stretches of the A47 from the Swaffham turn off to the Marston/Narborough roundabout. There is a 40 mile mph speed limit, and no work is being done whatsoever. Why cone off perfectly useable dual carriage way, and why not explain the delays? It is taxpayers who funds your work, so please stop ignoring us let us know what is going on.

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about apparent lack of worker and 40mph speed limit.

We appreciate it may appear that these speed restrictions are in place for little reason.

On occasion, workers could be working out of sight, so it may appear there is no work being completed. We only partially remove traffic management, as removing and resetting the entire roadwork each day would cause further delays to projects and motorists. This can also be detrimental to keeping road workers safe and can increase the cost to the economy.

We keep restrictions in during the day as there is often a temporary road surface in place while the road is being restored. This is also the case with safety barriers, so higher speeds pose a greater safety risk to all.

Thank you again for your report.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
