Excessive noise and flying debris

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 14:38, Wed 13 July 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3673782.

A27 Eastbound carriageway.

Currently there is no barrier, noise reduction or physical barrier along the east bound carriageway edge behind the properties at port code PO92TD, South Close, Wade Court Road South and the South end of North Close. Between the Havant and Emsworth junctions of the east bound A27.

The noise levels have now become unacceptable, preventing residents normal use of gardens and amenity space close to the A27 at all times of day.

Occasionally debris such as tyres have flown off of the road and landed in the end of South Close Gardens. This is completely unacceptable and causes a huge risk to injury or death to pedestrians and residents.

A physical barrier along the road edge is essential and appropriate in this location, such as a 2.5m + high Close boarded timber fence or metal panel barrier along the entire edge of the road.

A noise barrier exists in many other locations along the edge of the road, for example behind Norris Gardens at PO92TT. The lack of a noise barrier behind PO92TD is unacceptable and shows a clearly biased allocation of budget spending to certain areas and postcodes.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning the noise and flying debris at this location.

We are unlikely to provide specific noise mitigation measures, such as noise barriers, in the near future. However, we are working to minimise noise emissions from the whole network, using low noise surfacing as our standard surface. This will be done in the area when the current surface wears out.

Please report any other incidents with debris to our Customer Contact Centre so we can investigate this further:
