Lane 3 &4 closed with no warning

The 4th and then 3rd lane are closed off with no prior warning. No overhead lane closure lights and no visible yellow signs. I was overtaking in the 4th lane when it suddenly was coned off! I managed to quickly get back into the 3rd lane and then that started to be coned off too! I was boxed in between a huge lorry and cones slowly closing off the lane in front of me. I had to emergency break and then swerve in behind the lorry. Thank goodness there was no one behind the lorry. Both myself and my husband in the passenger seat agreed that there had been no signage to warn of these lane closures and it very nearly caused an accident. The cones were still being put out further up the motorway so these looked like they'd only just been placed there. I think the time was around 21.45pm. This was just about 1 mile before junction 22 on the M6 (northbound). I was very much skaken up but also worried for subsequent drivers who may have also been affected by this.
