General safety/maintenance issues relating to pedestrian bridge (A27 Sompting)

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 19:26, Thu 7 July 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3659352.

General damage, graffiti and cleanliness issues relating to the pedestrian bridge crossing the A27 adjacent to the Sir Robert Woodard Academy grounds. Missing step edge strips and loose edge strip at top step on southern end (serious trip hazard/safety concern). I would be interested to know what the general maintenance plan is for this bridge as quite frankly, it is in a shocking state. Flooding (assumably due to blocked drains) also seems to be an issue on the bridge pathways. With thanks in advance.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about Upper Boundstone Lane footbridge.

We were aware of the loose edge strip on 7 July and a crew attended within 24 hours to make safe.

Cyclical structures maintenance is carried out once a year and this bridge was attended to on 31 January 2022. Maintenance includes graffiti removal, vegetation and drainage channel clearance.

    Kind regards National Highways
