  • Thank you for contacting us about delays/traffic management on the M1 junction 34.

We’re sorry to hear of the issues you’re experiencing during these works and understand that it’s frustrating when roadworks cause a delay to your journey.

The traffic management on the M1 Junction 34 has been installed to enable Cadent gas to undertake safety critical inspections of two main gas pipelines running under Tinsley Viaduct. To enable safe access for the inspections the A631 northbound has to be closed and traffic diverted north using the middle lane or service road. The signal timings at Junction 34 have been adjusted to reflect the new temporary layout and help smooth the flow of traffic. When planning these works we can assure you that safety and the impact to our customers has been considered to try minimise disruption to your journey and keep everyone safe.

We’re having regular discussions with all key stakeholders. This includes meetings with the local authority and Police to manage this scheme and other works in the surrounding area.. We’ve shared this with the site team and asked them to consider if further improvements are possible.

The work by Cadent gas is due to be completed in 10 weeks. They can also be contacted on 0800 389 8000 or by email at box.EMCustomerTeam@cadentgas.com.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our contact centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone on 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.
