Loose manhole cover on A35 travelling East, dip in A35 travelling West

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 14:39, Tue 28 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3630774.

On the A35 at Quarr Cross there is a manhole cover loose so any vehicle driving over it causes a clanking sound. on the other side of the A35 between the Junction of Eype Down Road and Turnpike Cottage there is a dip in the road and when a large heavy container vehicle hits it it causes our Cottage (Downside Cottage) to shake, sometimes violently! The worst time seems to be between 5.30 am and 7.30 am (are the lorries transporting heavier goods then?) but periodically during the day it happens. You resurfaced the A35 some years ago which stopped a majority of the vibration but now it is worse than ever! The cottages here were built in the 1880's and have no foundations so you have to wonder what structural damage is being done. Our Cottage lies back from the A35, not directly along side it, so the vibration must be worse for other Cottages that do!

  • Your site has been compromised as false emails have been sent to to my fellow Councillors asking them to purchase items on my behalf in secret!!! It happened from the last update I replied to as this is the only site I said I was a Councillor and it is happening again so I new this Email was imminent. YOU NEED TO SORT OUT YOUR SECURITY or check your members of staff for fraudulent activity.!

  • These huge container wagons continue to vibrate our property when they hit the dip in the road heading to Chideock. The worst times are between 5.30am and 7.30 am. Cracks are starting to appear so we might have to call in a surveyor.

  • People have come out to visit and Wessex Water are responsible for the drain cover and it has been reported. As to the dip in the A35 surface, again it has been inspected and I have been informed it will be resurfaced some time this week as the Road is closed overnight for the next few days and has been added to the contractors list of jobs.
