Dangerous lane signs

Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 07:02, Fri 24 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3619499.

On leaving the m27, junction 12, travelling to Southampton Road towards the hospital, coming from fareham, I believe its the new lane lay out, this whole week its been so dangerous with cars coming from Portsmouth trying to cut across 2 lanes, causing the traffic to be standstill , around the bend when cars are coming high spped off the motorway and dangerous driving from people trying to get in the lanes. I've been working at QAH since 2007 and never had an issue with this road, or queuing traffic so far back from the traffic lights, and no issues with the cars merging it, just feels so dangerous now I wanted to report it incase the lanes could go back how they were? Sorry but I could not actually see what the changes were to explain better.

Updates

  • Just to add this morning the traffic was almost queuing onto the motorway and took me from 0730 to 0750 to travel to QAH after leaving the m27. It just seems so dangerous. And avoidable as it has never been like this before, in over 15 yrs . Thank you in advance for looking into this matter.

  • Thank you for your report concerning the lane markings at this location.

A resurfacing scheme is currently in place on the M27 junction 12 slip and link roads. The layout of the junction will be returned to the previous layout upon completion of these works. In the meantime, signs have been put in place to warn road users about the lack of road markings. Drivers are to follow the highway code and adjust their driving style accordingly to follow the temporary traffic management measures currently in place.

    Kind regards

  • This morning the lanes appeared to be back to normal, the same issue occurred, and I think it's the traffic lights which are only green for a shorter time. Alot less traffic moved through, which would explain the queues. Have they changed the timings at all?

    Thank you

  • Definitely an issue with the timings of the traffic lights being green for a shorter time since the resurfacing works commenced. Also noticed very few vehicles queuing at the other traffic lights at this junction. Please could the previous timings be reinstated? Further to the first comment posted on 24/06/2022, I've been using this junction for the last 5 years in my daily commute and never known there to be such a queue each day which is now doubling my commute time. Please fix this today.

  • Totally agree, the traffic lights are only letting 5 people through at a time where as previously it allowed at least 10 to 15 cars through at least.

    Needs fixing ASAP
