Obscure diversion signs

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 09:43, Wed 22 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3614613.

Having been diverted on to A380 the signs to get us back on the A38 west were impossible to follow. Lots of signs for A38 east but none west. Without our Sat Nav we would not have found our way. Please trial this route yourself and see how difficult it is to negotiate. Colour coded signs for east and west would be useful as writing on signage is too small.

Updates

  • Thank you for your contact of 22 June 2022 about the signage on the A380. We’re sorry to hear of your frustration and inconvenience caused by the diversion route.

The signs do have to comply with specific standards so we are unable to colour code them as they do need to be black on yellow. We have the option for symbol signing them but this is often misunderstood by some motorists, and we have found that in general the A38 (E) and A38 (W) signs have proved very successful as the diversion route has been in place for a number of months, the route has proved to be suitable for all traffic. We check all our road signs and the diversion route regularly to ensure the signs are maintained and when there are issues these are resolved by the crew as soon as they are picked up.

Thank you once again for contacting us.
