Obscure diversion signs

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 09:28, Wed 22 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3614535.

Having been diverted on to A380 the signs to get us back on the A38 west were impossible to follow. Lots of signs for A38 east but none west. Without our Sat Nav we would not have found our way. Please trial this route yourself and see how difficult it is to negotiate. Colour coded signs for east and west would be useful as writing on signage is too small.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning diversion signs.

We're sorry for the inconvenience caused by the diversion route and the additional time the route takes. The signs do have to comply with design standards so we're unable to colour code them as they do need to be black on yellow.

We've the option for symbol signing them but this is often misunderstood by some motorists, and we've found that in general the A38 (E) and A38 (W) signs have proved very successful as the diversion route has been in place for a number of months, and although we get the occasional enquiry and sometimes a sign has been moved, the route has proved to be suitable for all traffic.

We check all our road signs and the diversion route regularly to ensure the signs are maintained and when there are issues these are resolved by the crew as soon as they are picked up.

If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
