Plywood and timber on road

Reported via desktop in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 10:27, Tuesday 21 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

As I came down the M1 today towards Hemel and took the slip road off to go west on A414 at the beginning of the slip road (or where the slip road splits, i cant now remember) There was a sheet of plywood and some timber that i had to swerve around.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding litter and debris on the A414 slip road coming off of the M1.

We, National Highways, are not responsible for picking litter on the A414. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1991, this is the responsibility of the local authority. If you wish to report the issue to them, contact details for local authorities can be found by using the search facility at: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-council.

To help, we’re working with them to ensure litter picking is better co-ordinated with other routine maintenance work on our road network. By doing so, we aim to minimise disruption to those using our roads, reduce costs and importantly, ensure safety standards for those picking the litter are met.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
