M60 traveling anti-clockwise between J17 and J16
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 07:51, Wed 15 June 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3597480.
I have recently received a NIP from the police for traveling above the speed limit of 50mph at 05:37am on the M60 traveling anti-clockwise between J17 and J16 Albeit traveling at 106mph, I believe the camera should have been set at 70mph not 50mph.
There was no signs illuminated on that particular section showing a lower limit, 50mph is also not shown on the motorway gantry - as per the speeding evidence photograph.
I can see numerous reports on the internet regarding this exact location - so I would appreciate your early investigation / comments.

The motorway is 70mph. There is no sign before the speed trap stating 50! This is another farce by the Dlva to tax the poor motorist. I got the fine at 4am due to congestion on the road?

This is a smart motorway section so has variable speed limits which are very clearly shown on the overhead gantries. The Speed Cameras are also clearly marked. But yourself the latest Highway Code or go online and search. Drivers should keep themselves up to date with changes in the law.

I have a recieved a speeding fine letter (11/8/23) for doing 63 in a so-called 50 zone between J16 and J15 anti-clockwise on the M60 at 3.17 in the morning. There were no overhead speedlimits of any sort. they were all dark. My Google maps (which is great for updating variable speed restrictions) still showed 70mph as the limit. I was being really careful to watch my speed as I had a roof rack on the car, so I was being hyper vigilant to speed restrictions. There were none. I'd really love to know if anyone has been successful in appealing a speeding fine like this. It's totally unjust.
