The traffic lights on this roundabout are causing multiple near misses to occur. Heading southwards from the A339 towards the M3 has three possible lanes to use. The problem is due to the right hand lane of these three which cuts right through the centre of the roundabout for cars wanting to head to the A30. Traffic lights are red which causes this right hand lane to back up. Drivers in this right hand lane also use this lane to head straight towards the M3 but due to traffic buildup swerve left into the centre lane causing vehicles in this lane to take emergency action and swerve out the way. Myself, I have had multiple near misses and last week had to swerve across a lane to avoid a driver caught in the traffic light buildup. This is now unacceptable and is why I'm reporting it. The traffic light timings for need URGENT review for those wanting to head to A30 so that those heading across the roundabout towards M3 are not put in this dangerous position everytime we need to use it. It cannot be right that traffic is allowed to buildup in the right most lane while the middle and left lane are passing through at speed and having to swerve vehicles who are in that right lane and wish to head towards the M3. Please look into this as a matter of urgency, this roundabout is 'new' compared to others in the area and this shouldn't be happening. Personally, I think the issue arises because the right hand lane can be used by those wanting to head to the M3 as well as the A30, however the A30 route is always red when vehicles are using the roundabout whereas the lights for the M3 are green. So you are left with cars going 40-50mph next to ones that are stationery and prone to swerving into fast moving traffic.
Thank you for your report concerning faulty traffic lights at a roundabout off Junction 6 of the M3.
I can confirm that our system has reported a fault with the traffic lights in this area, which may be responsible for the phasing issues causing traffic problems. Our team has recognised this as a health and safety issue and have arranged for an engineer to attend the area within the next 48 hours.
