M5 Avonmouth bridge lighting STILL out without any progress noted

Reported via desktop in the Street lighting (NH) category anonymously at 19:47, Wed 1 June 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3567394.

For a long time many of the street lights along the Avonmouth bridge stretch of the M5 and now extending both sides of it around J19 and J18/18A, both verge and central reservation lighting has many bulbs that are out. This is very dangerous given it's a highly exposed bridge and it's somewhat dangerous at the best of times to remain unlit this long let alone in poor weather conditions. When will it be fixed please? thank you

And yet again I plead that you do not close this report until you have confirmed a scheduled plan of repairs and proposed dates are in place to fix the issue/s as it is at least the third or fourth time now you've closed my report without the problem being even acknowledged let alone resolved by a plan of action or reason/s to say and/or do otherwise are explained.

Thank you

  • Thank you for your report concerning lighting on the Avonmouth bridge. We're sorry for the delay in fixing these lights.

We've been out a number of times to try and fix the problem. However we've established that the internal elements of the lamps are no longer fit for purpose due to their age.

This is a complex problem to solve, we're trying to find a short term solution to get some of the lights operational. Whilst also looking at what can be done for the future.

We understand that you want more information regarding a scheduled plan for repairs. But we're sorry we don’t have this information to provide you at this moment in time.
