Debris

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 22:01, Sun 29 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3559980.

Disgraceful amount of roadside debris including leftover Road work equipment on the A14 around Cambridge. Absolutely disgusting that all this is left everywhere it shouldn't be. Please get verges and central reservation of this stretch of road cleared.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding redundant roadworks equipment and debris on the A14. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We carry out redundant roadworks equipment removal on a bi-monthly basis, however due to the volume of roadworks across our network it can be difficult to identify which equipment needs to stay or be removed.

We, National Highways, are not responsible for picking litter on the A14. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1991, this is the responsibility of the local authority. If you wish to report the issue to them, contact details for local authorities can be found by using the search facility at: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-council.

To help, we’re working with them to ensure litter picking is better co-ordinated with other routine maintenance work on our road network. By doing so, we aim to minimise disruption to those using our roads, reduce costs and importantly, ensure safety standards for those picking the litter are met.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
