Removal of Protective Trees and Shrubbery along M23 Motorway Edge

Reported via desktop in the Vegetation (grass/hedges/trees) (NH) category anonymously at 12:08, Sat 28 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3557714.

The Holiday Inn Worth has directed the removal of a significant area of protective trees and shrubbery separating the busy M23 motorway from a private lane which is used by pedestrians of all ages, horses, cars and delivery vehicles. This work was carried out within a few hours on 27th May, without prior consultation with nearby residents. Both the sound barrier and the safety barrier have been removed. On the surface it looks like a blatant attempt to advertise the Holiday Inn Worth to drivers and their passengers on the very busy M23 motorway, creating a dangerous distraction. It is difficult to see any other reason to do carry out this level of destruction. For the safety of both motorway and the lane users, I request that the Highways Agency demands that the Holiday Inn takes remedial action immediately in the form of a replacement barrier/high shield, pending new tree and shrubbery growth which will take time. Note also that this work was carried out during Bird Nesting Season and it should be assumed that birds were nesting in the trees and shrubbery that were demolished.
