Misleading signage on approach to island
Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 14:41, Fri 27 May 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3556379.
Heading east, the slip road off the A5 brings traffic down and under the A5 to a roundabout controlled by lights. Originally the nearside lane was for traffic to turn left or go straight on. This has changed to left turn only, with the adjacent right-hand lane for straight on to Sainsburys and Town Centre. The signage and road markings are both inadequate and misleading, in particular, the old road markings for straight on are still visible and the sign shows straight on as well as left turn. Being in the correct lane for straight on, namely Sainsburys, I have had frequent near misses with vehicles on my left, going straight on assuming that they can do so. Signage approaching the island needs to be clearer denoting ‘Left turn only’ and left turn road markings should start further back with the old markings completely covered up. In addition, a solid white line on the right of this lane would clearly show a separation from other traffic.

Agree with the statement above. Just had a near collision with a car on my left, who thought I was in the wrong and hit his horn ! I would say there is a 50% chance of witnessing or being involved in an issue of some kind when approaching the island from the A5

Further to my complaint of 27/05/22, yet again through bad road signage on this road I was involved in a near miss with a vehicle to my left, in the wrong lane, going straight on. This complaint is not being taken seriously, misleading and unclear signage has resulted in a dangerous situation at this junction.

The advance road sign from A5 shows 2 lanes there are 4 there is no advance sign to indicate lanes. The left tur only road sign is unclear and many people try to go straight on causing problems. Local police officer told me they attend frequent accidents at the roundabout.

No remedial work to sort this issue out has been undertaken by National Highways. As previous comments state the road markings and signage is completely wrong. The amount of near misses at the traffic lights is getting worse. Immediate action needs to be take. To put things right at this very busy junction for Ventura and Jolly Sailor retail parks
