Parking on slip road

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 11:43, Tue 24 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3547306.

A number of vehicles including a motorhome are parking on the edge of the A31 slip road in a 'waiting area' close to the entrance of our residential park which is preventing cars cleanly exiting the park; traffic pulling into the park has to wait until they can get past the car exiting. Also, traffic passing at night is setting off the alarms on parked cars causing a nuisance. Would it be possible to put a sign up restricting parking?

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning parking on an A31 'waiting area'.

Any vehicles parked in such a manner that they block access to the residential park, the adjacent DVSA check point, or the footpath leading to the bus stop are parked partially on the slip road itself, and therefore are in violation of the Clearway Order preventing vehicles stopping on any designated Clearway, which the slip road is clearly signposted as.

Unfortunately, National Highways is not an enforcement agency, so it is outside of our power to take action against vehicles parked on or partially on the slip road. We advise that if you see vehicles wrongfully parked on the slip road and blocking the entrances to the residential park, bus stop footpath, or DVSA checkpoint, you alert the Police.

As the Clearway signs are currently in place, no restrictive parking signs would be required as it is unlawful for vehicles to stop in this area.

  • I recently contacted Dorset Council as the area you refer to is not a waiting area, it is a verge on your trunk road; this is part of the reply from Michael Westwood: ...Its part of the trunk road network and is looked after by national highways. I have put a link below with there contact details and how to report problems. https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ help-centre/ ....... Please note: I am not responsible for the DVLA or a bus stop, just the entrance to the residential park.

  • Please visit the afore mentioned area and check that Clearway signs are in place as there are non visible
