Dear Sir or Madam
Thank you for your report on Fix My Street of damage to this bridge over the A180.
The damaged metal plate is part of the bridge’s expansion joint. It covers the gap between the bridge deck and the abutment and usually is buried beneath the surfacing. Being exposed won’t do the bridge much harm, but it’s not ideal either.
In the long-term we’re going to look to replace the joint. For the interim, we’ve put plans in place for a temporary repair to the damaged surface around the joint as shown in your photos. We want to complete this work soon however it may take place after the upcoming Jubilee bank holiday weekend.
I’d like to reassure you that we will be carrying out repairs to this bridge in the near future and thank you again for contacting us.
If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk. Kind regards
Daniel
