New safety barriers

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 11:23, Fri 20 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3538996.

Hello, Glad to see that after nearly 2 years these roadworks are nearly finished, but, are the new barriers safe? Most of the new section just have a single piece of steal mounted the the top of the support. This will be ok for HGV's , but looks too high the cars, almost window height, is so surely dangerous. Look forward to your reply because I've never seen this style before.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about your concerns on the safety of the new barriers that we’ve installed on the A14 near Newmarket. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We’d like to reassure you that the single-rail barrier we’ve used as a replacement for the old style barrier meets all our standards in terms of safety and design. This includes the height of the barrier. They are approved for use in the central reservation to help prevent crossover incidents.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
