Traffic lights appear to have birds nests in them

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 10:41, Wed 18 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3533798.

Two sets of lights at this junction (one facing the traffic coming from Stanway onto the roundabout, and the other facing traffic already on the roundabout) appear to have birds nests in the black funnels around the coloured bulbs. These are significantly obscuring the individual lights for motorists.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the traffic lights having a birds nest in them. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We have been advised that all birds and their nests are protected and we should not disturb or kill any wild birds or their nest. Even if the chicks have fledged we cannot remove a nest before September. My advice would be to revert to lighting specialists and look into providing temporary lights until after the nesting season.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 500 or by email at info@highwaysengland.co.uk.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
