40 MPH signs

I can see on this page that there are no small number of complaints on the speed limit in place on this road. However instead of addressing the concerns it seems that the red circular speed limit signs - that were being ignored anyway - have been taken down and replaced with small yellow signs along the road that are being ignored even more than the previous ones. While I appreciate that the roadworks are pending I would like to pose that replacing the signs in this way is only exacerbating the problem and larger signs are needed or some form of speed camera as this road is steadily becoming a bit of a joke. What's the point of having traffic laws if they are not adhered to/enforced particularly given that this road has been in the news recently for a fatal crash due to speeding.

Thank you for contacting National Highways about the temporary 40mph speed limit on the A1307. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Unfortunately this is a complex issue to do with the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) that was in place to enforce the temporary speed limit. This was in place to mitigate the need for the safety barrier systems (VRS) on the A1307. The replacement VRS scheme has now been deferred and the TTRO has expired. The replacement scheme will now become part of the de-trunking works that will be undertaken by Cambridgeshire County Council.
An advisory speed limit (indicated by the yellow signs you mention) will remain in place for the foreseeable future in order to mitigate risk to the travelling public using the A1307 prior to the VRS replacement.
The new TTRO, which will allow for re-enforcement of the 40mph speed limit, is being arranged currently and will be back in place in due course, until the VRS replacement has been completed.
I hope this helps, and we apologise again for the inconvenience.
Kind regards
National Highways
