No signage for coast bound traffic to keep left

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 12:37, Mon 16 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3528853.

I have just travelled from maidstone to sheppey via the A249 at Stockbury. I queued for a short time on the inside lane to pick up the correct lane on the roundabout - only for a car to nearly hit me trying to cut across for the M2 Eastbound having been on the outside lane meant for traffic heading to London.. I also noticed several cars and including HGVs speeding down the right hand lane before the roundabout then cutting across lanes to keep on A249 Northbound. There seems to be little signage and certainly nothing to stop impatient drivers jumping the queue. I would be interested if there had been other near misses or accidents. The white lines also seem obscured now.

Updates

  • We are sorry to hear about this incident. We do have signage on the network but are limited to how much we can put out and sadly cannot change individual driving behaviour. The white lines are due to be repainted this summer. Thank you, the M2 junction 5 project team.
