Traffic light timings

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 18:31, Thu 12 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3521929.

Couple of years back a lorry coming from A404M towards the roundabout of junction 8 slipped off road and fell straight down towards M4 in the process hitting a traffic light which is straight in front when coming from A404M . Before this day the traffic lights here was on some sort of sensors or automation where they used to change to red or green depending on how much traffic is coming . But since then they are on a fixed green/red time irrespective of the fact if there is traffic coming or not. This has resulted in long queues on the slip road on M4 junction 8 eastbound (traffic exiting for A404M and A308M). If you can sort this out that would help. If you do your checks and come to conclusion that the system is working fine then I request you consider the following. 1. Increase the green light time for the traffic exiting M4 eastbound towards A404M and A308M by 4-5 seconds more ( at least at peak hours ). 2. I also suggest that you increase the green light time for traffic proceeding from slip road (M4 eastbound) to A308M by 2-3 seconds permanently at all times.

This will result in better flow of traffic and would help if you close the junction for weekend closure. kind regards
