Thank you for contacting National Highways about the 40mph zone for our roadworks on the A12.
Most of the works are taking place overnight on weekdays, so in the daytime you may not notice any activity.
The work will includes safety barrier and drainage renewal, resurfacing, replacement of road markings, studs and signs and other routine maintenance activities. Some of this work, such as on the drainage may not be obvious to passing traffic.
The 40mph remains in place during the day for the safety of road users. There will be areas where we have removed the safety barriers ready for their replacement, where we have installed narrow lanes or where traffic is running on a temporary surface.
Thank you again for your report. I hope this explains why it may not be obvious that works are going on and why the 40mph remains in place all the time.
