Stop closing reports until the hazard/work is resolved please!

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 17:21, Tue 10 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3516243.

Hi there I wrote to inform you about the overgrown brambles on the footpath running from the M5 J19 exit to the A369 (Gordano side) and whilst I appreciate you have acknowledged this and plan work, you haven't confirmed that the work has actually been done yet or on what timescale it will be but you still closed the report. I find it incompetent to have these online reports closed when the problem/s have not been rectified or explained otherwise (to mutual agreement between you and the complainant) as to why they haven't or can't be replaced/repaired/sorted etc! Absolutely not on and gives no faith.

Whether it's overgrown vegetation, a false/misleading sign or a pothole, it is not justified or even safe to close the report when the issue (which is often a serious and sometimes even life threatening issue) has not been resolved or put clear as to why otherwise. Again it gives a lack of faith and trust in you or the fact that you REALLY care about our safety and convenience as much as you boastfully like to claim. So do not close reports until the problem is resolved please! Thank you very much

  • Thank you for your report concerning the overgrown right of way adjacent to the M5 at junction 19.

We're sorry that we closed this report before we adequately explained the situation to you. This is a tool we use where information received is distributed to the appropriate teams to take action. Although we close down reports on this tool, this doesn’t mean no action is being taken, please rest assured it is being dealt with.

Following your initial report the service delivery team were informed. Due to the level of vegetation here, the work is taking more planning than standard vegetation removal. We're currently costing this work and looking to schedule this in. Our aim is to clear the vegetation so it remains in a maintainable state going forward on yearly basis.

At the moment, we don’t have a definitive date for when this work is taking place. We expect that this will happen between June and July. However, this is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

    Kind regards

    National Highways

State changed to: No further action
