Everlasting roadworks

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 19:20, Fri 6 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3507374.

Your roadworks according to your signage should have finished April 2022. There appears to be very little progress. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PUT IN A PIPE AND REPLACE A BARRIER.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about our roadworks on the A14.

We understand your frustration about the length of time our works are taking on the A14 around Newmarket. We’re doing a lot of different pieces of work at the same time to avoid separate closures. The merging of these pieces of work has led to the programme being extended. However, it will help prevent the need for further road closures in the near future.

The work we’ve been doing on the A14 between junction 33 and junction 44 is essential to help extend the lifespan of the road and make journeys safer for motorists. As well as the barrier and drainage work you mention the works also include:

    • Work to keep the bridge safe • New signs • Resurfacing • Road studs (cats' eyes) • Clearer road lines • Bridge waterproofing

The initial phase of our work over-ran for various reasons beyond our control. We are now planning for the majority of our work to be complete by 1 July. After this there will be bridge waterproofing works which will require a contraflow in summer 2022. More details of this can be found on the A14 maintenance work between junction 33 and junction 44 page on our website.

Thank you again for your report and your patience while we finish the work.

    Kind Regards, National Highways
