Wrong sign

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 06:42, Wed 4 May 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3499920.

They are speed signs 40 and speed camera sign on A11 between Norwich and Attleborough. And next to sign "Camera not in use". So what is accurate speed?

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the signage on the A11 regarding speed limits. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

The 40mph speed limit is in place as a safety precaution as we continue our preparation works, ahead of the start of our contraflow traffic management for the scheme on 29 May 2022. This work includes the installation of CCTV masts, which are considered to be a verge-side hazard. This in turn means that traffic isn’t allowed to travel at the national speed limit, when driving past them.

Although the cameras are currently being installed and are not yet in use, it’s still a legal requirement for road users to travel at the speed limit as set by the road signs.

The ‘camera not in use’ signs are placed as a contractual requirement. With that said, the cameras went live on the morning of morning 10 May 2022.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 500 or by email at

    Kind regards

    National Highways
