Why not inform south bound traffic before Wellington junction so could come off there rather than having to drive all the way down to Collumpton then back up across country to Tiverton area. Just need to tickle brain!

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 22:44, Thu 21 April 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3474370.

No signage at Wellington to say J27 closed so poor souls after long days work driving all way to Ollumpton and back. Do you really think you should be doing this job!

  • Thank you for your report regarding closure warnings on the M5 before Wellington. We're sorry for any inconvenience this closure caused.

Our diversion routes are agreed between ourselves, the local councils and the police. Routes have to be suitable for all vehicle types, including HGVs. So if you're in a car it may not seem to be the most logical route. We place tactical signage within 2 junctions giving specific information, as well as being placed further afield alerting drivers to the upcoming closure or restriction.

With the information we have currently, we're unable to advise on the specific signage in place. Please feel free to contact us via info@nationalhighways.co.uk referencing 22264171 with the time and date of travel, and we'll happily look into this further.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
