Updates

  • Thank you for reporting litter on the M53 to National Highways. We follow Defra legislative requirements under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA). This imposes a duty on us to keep public highways within our network clear of litter and refuse.

We currently undertake an annual litter pick as part of our cyclic maintenance process. In addition weekly inspections of the network identify litter build ups at levels C & D in Defra’s code of practice We’ve recently assessed and graded our whole network for litter and cyclic maintenance works have been raised for all problem areas on the M53. We’ll aim to complete the work within the next 6 weeks. The litter pick will require traffic management to help keep our workforce safe, and it can take some time to gain approval for this.

  • Horrified by the litter along the m53 yesterday. It’s appalling in a supposedly civilised country
