Speed limited to 50 mph whilst there’s no road works actually happening

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 22:57, Tue 12 April 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3456074.

Speed limited to 50 mph whilst there’s no road works actually happening. There’s a ton of traffic cones sitting in the middle section and posts over cats eyes suggesting that there will be works starting at some point. Though currently there’s a 50 mph speed limit with no actual road works happening at the moment. There’s signs to say that there are further works happening ahead, so the speed limit is left in place. However still no work actually happening. I drove from Barton junction to Newcastle earlier only to spend most of the journey at 50 mph with no visible road works anywhere in sight!! If works are planned then I understand getting the equipment, cone’s, etc ready. However this doesn’t require the speed limit to be reduced for no apparent reason.

Updates

  • Due to the to the programming of resources to complete the project ahead of schedule a concerted effort was made prior to the Easter bank holidays on the A1M mainline and underside bridge repairs which meant all material curing times could happen over the holiday period. Because of this we were able to return to complete the works the following week and commence the removal of the traffic management and speed limits the week after.

    Kind Regards
