Problems with new Pedestrian Crossing

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 14:37, Mon 14 March 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3387214.

As reported by another user on 11th March 2022, the new crossing has a very long delay before the lights trigger, even if no traffic is approaching. This is a safety hazard, because pedestrians risk crossing either without pressing any buttons, or after pressing buttons but before the lights trigger, causing frustration for traffic which ahs to wait for nobody. Also, the two halves of the crossing are no longer linked, meaning another long wait for the other half. The infrared sensors don't seem to see anyone on the crossing. And there's no advantage for cyclists now using the new crossing, because they too have to wait a long time!

Updates

  • Similar long delays at the single crossing by the Blue Goose, nearby.
