Litter on A34

Reported via iOS in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 14:49, Thu 3 March 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3359412.

I think the A34 must be a great example of litter-strewn roads in the UK. I estimate there’s at least four items a yard along the 52 miles from Winchester to Oxford. That’s 366,080 items, which can only have come from the occupants of cars. I suggest the road is closed for one day so that drivers can do a litter pick! Or perhaps an additional tax for all owners to fund a regular litter blitz on major roads. How else are people going to learn to take their litter home?

  • I agree - I have litter picked the A34 off slip near where I live, and I want to do something about the rest of the verges, but the traffic has to be stopped. The litter is unsightly, damaging to wildlife and if it isn't removed the plastic items break down into small bits that are harder to pick up. I wish we could come up with a solution, it is really depressing.
