Derby to Ripley section of A38. Disgusting amounts of litter and debris in and the verges.

Reported via mobile in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 20:42, Sun 27 February 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3348577.

The amount of little on the Northbound carriageway from Derby travelling towards Ripley on the A38 was absolutely disgusting. Miles of the side of the carriageway was full of debris from vehicles, leftover broken roadworking rubbish, litter, plastic, bottles, you name it is has been thrown from cars or left on side of road. Please could you instigate a litter pick along this section of road. Whilst travelling we were passed by a Dutch family obviously on holiday in the county. I felt physically embarrassed that this much litter has been allowed to gather. It looks like years and years worth.

  • Can I please report that absolutely nothing has been done about the debris and litter on the A38 - it is beyond disgusting! I am a visitor now as having lived in Derbyshire for 30 years I am now a resident of Scotland - I have been shocked by the contrast! Derbyshire is now an embarrassment to visiting tourists and to the people who live here and pay very large council tax bills - please please do something about it

  • I have previously contacted the council about the A38 approach road to the Royal Derby Hospital which is absolutely disgusting. This is just one road on which litter of all kinds, including car debris, plastic bollards as well as takeaway detritus, bottles, plastic containers are flung. It is acutely embarrassing that we the locals, as well as visitors to the city, are constantly exposed to such a mess. With the new community payback initiative a regular system be put into motion for regular clean-ups?

  • I have also previously contacted the council about the litter / fly tipping on the A38 between Derby and Alfreton which is absolutely disgusting. The council are a waste of time, they seem more interested in removing bins / places to dispose of rubbish than adding them. Their response is that ' people should take their litter home with them' which in 'the real world' we live in is a joke! There should be regular checks / clean ups on the laybys which also stop litter blowing down the carriageway and into the central reservation which is hard to clean up.
