The variable speed limit signs are stuck on 60 mph. It is clear that the system controlling them is malfunctioning.

The speed limit along the whole section is fixed, stuck, at 60 mph. I have driven on the M27 quite a few times since the works were completed at all times of the day, including 8:00 this Sunday morning when it was nearly empty. There is no possible way that congestion was the reason for the 60 mph limit to remain in force. So they must be faulty. Please fix them quickly since they are needlessly slowing up those of us who have to use this motorway frequently.

Hey are not broken, the speed limit is intentional as yet-to-be-started smart motorway schemes have been halted over safety fears due to the lack of a hard shoulder.

This is an easy fix. set the far left lane as closed turning it back into a hard shoulder and set the speed limit to 70mph making the road as safe as it was before millions of pounds where wasted on it.

Almost no traffic on M27, all cameras are working, why is the speed limit still 60 mph ? National speed limit is 70 mph as per the rules, and on all other smart mororways including M3.
No hard shoulder on M27 is not an excuse, as other smart motorways are the same.
Please escalate this, and have this fixed.
Please provide contact details including email where we tax paying users can escalate this, including the local MP's. This is not acceptable.
Please do report how many tickets are issued due to this unnecessary forced 60 mph ?

Why are the speed cameras still 60mph on the M27 ALL the time. This is a joke. It’s a ploy to get money when people get annoyed having not been able to use this properly as a motorway for years and so get caught out by a camera simply trying to do 70 AS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO!!!

Very shameful. Despite all the requests and reminders from road tax payers, national highways authority is not changing the speed limit on M27 to NATIONAL speed limit, whileon M3 it is 70 mph.
Reporting this to all national media, hopefully national media will name and shame national hOghways authority.

The 60mph speed limit creates bunching and frustration. Yesterday there was an 'obstruction' and a 50mph limit. But i saw No Obstruction. This misinformation makes drivers unwilling to reduce speed when there really is a need to slow the traffic. What a waste of people's time and money this farce is has become.

Please please fix the speedlimit on M27 from 60 mph to national speed limit 70 mph.
There are already so many cameras installed, most of the times there is hardly any traffic.
Weekend 2 lanes almost empty but speed limit stuck on 60 mph.
Huge huge waste of tax payers time and money.

A mish mash of patchwork quilt of a bumpy road. The Whitely turn off is a mess. The workers only seemed to get any work done in the last few months after 2 years of drinking coffee by the side of the road. You've got to wonder who took the back handers for this joke of a motorway.

On Friday 6/5/22 along m27 it was a20 mph limit on outer lane only, said all other lanes closed, nothing to see, traffic speeding in lane 1,2,3 overtaking lane 4, very dangerous, and very annoying.

Ironically, you can do 70 on the two lane bit coming off the M3 south, but then have to slow to 60 on the four lane bit - makes no sense at all. I have emailed highways england this morning so we'll see what they have to say, if anything??

That still get paid no matter how long they take in meeting after meeting.

Millions of pounds spent making the M27 4 lanes, and mention the massive gantry signs that must have alone also cost millions and all it reports is that the speed limit is 60, what a waste of public money, restricted speed on a sometimes empty road, I could understand a speed reduction during rush hours, but not all the time.

I fully understand the m27 is in a calibration phase but there is absolutely no timeframe to determine when this will be complete. All that money spent to go from a restricted 50 in roeadworks to 60 seems a huge waste of money. Please specify when the 60 limit is expected to be lifted.

M27 'calibration phase' is just an excuse for lack of confidence by the staff and management operating it. We travel from Ringwood at 70mph, NO hard shoulder, NO refuge areas, NO monitored cameras. We then join the so called 'smart' M27 with 4 often unused lanes, CCTV, lane controlled by 24/7 staff and Refuge areas, but we have to slow to 60mph. We then increase our speed to 70mph on the A27, NO cameras, NO CCTV, NO hard shoulder. Not all of us are fooled by National Highways Bull****

The new 'smart' section of the M27 has been completed for months.....how long does testing and calibration take, for god's sake?! The honest truth is very likely that those responsible are scared of the backlash if there is an accident when they commit 100%: it would simply prove the dangerous absurdity of the horrendously ill-conceived 'smart motorway' program. 'Smart'? I don't think so!

Very annoying and generally bringing the system (and authorities concerned) into disrepute. This erodes confidence and respect for the very road traffic system the smart motorways are designed to improve.

I have noticed with a 60 mile an hour seed limit on the M27 traffic is more congested and packed together in lanes one and two van it would be if it was running at 70 mile an hour This needs sorting because it is more dangerous travelling at 60 on a motorway then is 70

Still 60 on M27 , totally ridiculous. 4 lanes , hardly any traffic, but we’re jogging along at 60. Utter madness.

Spring 2022 was the revised finish date and that's been and gone. And it's not finished until the speed restriction is lifted. Matrix signs also inconsistent, sometimes one drops to 50 for no apparent reason, easy to miss when every other sign reads 60. Or Lane 2 at 30, Lanes 3&4 at 60 which I have seen several times when they have been putting cones out at J5. 30mph speed difference between lanes is unsafe and I didn't even think was allowed - surely all lanes at same speed?? Hard to trust the matrix signs when so many issues.

I agree with all these comments. Just driven down the M27 and the speed limit was stuck on 40mph. Hardly a car on the road. Earlier they signaled a stranded vehicle that wasn’t stranded and the closure of three lanes which weren’t closed. Please get this fixed. It just isn’t good enough. Why is it that it seems none of the public services in this country work properly?

19-07-22 No speed limit signs dispayed on M27 East bound - however camera seen flashing! does this mean the limit is 60 or 70? will these drivers aviod fines as not limit displayed?

Good morning
Matrix signs on M27 east bound - not working
On 19-07-22 at approx. 1600hr - the speed limit signs on the M27 East bound (approx. between whitely & fareham) were not displaying any speed limits, however the yellow static cameras were flashing! Meaning some drivers were having number plates recorded. What was the limit at the time 60 or 70? Are the cameras still set at 60?
I understand that the cameras may be going through a period of calibration – but if drivers have no warnings of the current speed including no road level signs, are they being sent speeding fines?
Please can this be looked into, as I’m sure that there will be approx. 20-30 drivers complaining very soon… Including myself if/when speeding fines get sent through the post in 14 days

I too was an unintended speed photograph on the M27 @ 16:15 yesterday (19/7/22), the speed limit was set to the national Limit of 70mph with no overhead advised restrictions / limits, the cameras were incorrectly capturing all the vehicles passing, in fact I thought the continuous flashing was lightning there were so bright. Likewise doing a speed of 68 i to and all the vehicles around me were photographed - the cameras were obviously not synched to the correct speed limit or were faulty. There must have been hundreds of vehicle registrations incorrectly taken.
I’d like assurances that the faulty cameras will not mean fines through the post, could Somebody please confirm that there was a fault as I personally was driving safely and within the law?

I have also just be flashed on the M27 around 45 minutes ago, doing 70mph. There was no overhead signage stating the speed should be anything other than 70mph!
