Sent to National Highways less than a minute later
I was driving on the A14 and went over what looked like a metal spacing grille (not sure what it's called). As I approached it looked like some teeth were sticking up and as as I went over it there was a bang. At first I thought it was just uneven join but a short distance along I realised my tire had burst. I can't pinpoint the exact location on the map as I had to come off the a14 to stop on a side road. If it helps, the side road I came off is Thrapston Road.
Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the expansion joint on the A14. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
I am sorry to hear about the damage caused to your vehicle while driving on our network. The route inspector for this area has conducted a safety inspection and no issues or defects with the joints from Ermine Street to Ellington have been found. It may instead be that an object or piece of debris was trapped in the joint at the time of the incident.
We will continue to closely monitor this area and look out for any similar incidents.
Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 500 or by email at email@example.com.
