Road markings for all approaches to Wheatcroft roundabout

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 09:15, Mon 21 February 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3329572.

The markings on the 3 lanes on Melton road as you approach the roundabout from town (passed the new shopping centre) are clear but often too late for motorists to see in busy traffic. The middle lane is marked so as to be used to continue onto the A606 Melton Road but drivers often use it to continue round the roundabout which they should not. If you are in the first RHS lane wishing to go round the roundabout to either continue onto the A52 ring road or exit onto Flawforth Lane, you suddenly find a car going round with you on the inside lane (blind side!) preventing you from dropping into the correct lane for exiting onto Flawforth Lane, which is dangerous. May be the road marking should say A606 ONLY. I have seen many incidents and accidents on this roundabout it needs a thorough assessment of how to improve its safety.

We’re aware of the issue. Our inspector has instructed our contractors to remark Wheatcroft Island. These works will be completed but this is weather dependant.
