Road closed signs
Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 22:35, Mon 31 January 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3280688.
This evening when travelling down the A26 from Lewes to Newhaven the workmen and women have placed road closed signs and bollards in the carriage way along the whole stretch of that road before 20:00 which is when the road officially closes. That caused me to have to enter the on coming carriageway numerous times on a national speed limit Road some of which are placed on bends. Considering this road is an accident hot spot with a number of deaths over the years wouldn’t it be wise to place these signs at 8pm when the entrance to the road is officially closed not putting members of the public at high risk forcing them to enter the on coming carriage way? I will be driving down the same road tomorrow at the same time. If they barriers are in place I will be moving them aside to clear the obstruction and not be force to cross double white lines on a open road. 8pm it closes not when they feel like it…

Three sets of barriers this evening on bends so dangerous, the car in front of me went into the on coming lane as a hgv was on coming. There’s going to be a fatality and I will be sending this complaint straight to the papers! I no what you’re thinking oh but it still isn’t 8pm how are there bollards in the road already?
