Contradictory road surface marking on the A404 southbound and M4 jct 8/9
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 14:57, Tue 18 January 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3249855.
The road surface markings on the A404 southbound to the M4 jct 8/9 indicate the correct lane for traffic joining the A 308M, M4 west and M4 east. These are then contradicted by the marking on the road surface on the junction itself. Specifically, the centre lane approaching the junction is indicated for M4 E, but then the centre lane on the junction indicates M4 E&W. I have seen drivers get confused by this and some hazardous lane changes occurring as a result.

Issue - Traffic light timings 1.Couple of years back a lorry coming from A404M towards junction 8 m4 had gone off road and fallen down from the roundabout, in the process knocking off traffic light which is directly in front as coming from A404M. Before this day the traffic lights here were on some sort of sensor automation( they used to change from green to red quickly when no traffic coming and vice versa) but now now they are on fixed green/red timing which results in long queues at peak timings for traffic. This has particularly affected traffic exiting junction 8 eastbound. 2. You also need to give couple of seconds more to traffic exiting junction 8 eastbound to A308M. 3. If you believe there is nothing wrong wirh the traffic timings here please give 4-5 seconds extra to traffic exiting junction 8 eastbound towards A404M and A308 M. If you do this there will be less queue buildup on Slip road on junction 8 eastbound.
