Flooding m5 southbound

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 14:40, Wednesday 5 January 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

Most of the drains are blocked on the avonmouth bridge and as you come down to jct 19.the water then travels across all the lanes causing a high risk of aquaplaning and possibly a serious accident. You can see most are full of debris or blocked completely. To be honest the whole drainage network from here to jct 20 is a mess. Constantly having accidents on these stretches of motorway when weathers bad.

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning drainage on the Avonmouth bridge.

We've been out to inspect the southbound carriageway on the Avonmouth Bridge and found that the gullies are generally in a good and clear condition. The following maintenance and inspection regime is in place to assure the integrity of the drainage system.

    • We've just completed a CCTV survey of the drainage system and found the south bound gullies to be free from blockages. • All of the drainage systems were jet/vacced in November • The next drainage jetting is scheduled to be carried out on the 24 January 2022. • This jet cleaning will be actioned every other month.
