Where have all the cats eyes gone?

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 14:27, Wed 29 December 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3203390.

Travelling home southbound on the M3 from London on Christmas Day at night the weather was diabolical. I had great difficulty following the lane markings, not just because of the weather obscuring the white lines but because so many of the cats eyes were missing. Identifying the edges on ones traffic lane was extremely challenging and I wonder if that contributed to the pile up recently in similar conditions. The fact that some were still there almost made it worse as it was easy to become disorientated, particularly on the bends. Also there used to be green cats eyes marking the slip road turnoffs at, for example, the M27. Only one or two remain. The extent of the problem was made more apparent once we reached the newly made part of the M27 heading east where all the cats eyes were in place. With limited lighting on motorways can this problem please be addressed?
