Speed Light not working causing speeding issues through the village
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 16:40, Thu 23 December 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3196802.
There is a 30 mile an hour speed light that flashes when cars are driving too fast approaching the Bayston Hill village, this is on the A49 vehicles approaching from Condover and Church Stretton towards Shrewsbury. The Light is on the left hand side just as you reach Bayston Hill before the Compasses Public House which is on the right. This has not been working for some time now and residents are concerned, even though there is no speed camera on this section of the A49 going through Bayston Hill, the camera does slow vehicles down especially the large lorries that speed up as the A49 goes down hill towards Shrewsbury If this could be fixed please asap we would be grateful as it is a safety issue for the local community,

Thank you for your report concerning Vehicle Activated Sign(VAS).
There are a number of signs of this nature on the network in the West Midlands. We're not sure who installed them or when, or where exactly they are. We're trying to establish how many there are and where they are so we can bid for the funding to maintain them.

Thank you for your reply. We have in the past reported these faults, there are 2 on the A49 leading into Bayston Hill, and they have broken before, to Highways agency who informed me they were maintained by Kier. I have put below a sentence from an email I received when this was reported before. Thank you for your emails to the Highways England Customer Contact Centre with regards to the speed light on the A5. Your enquiry has been passed to me as Kier manages and maintains the motorways and trunk roads across the West Midlands on behalf of Highways England. I hope this information might be able to help Thank you

I reported the speed light leading into Bayston Hill A49 from Church Stretton as not working in December 2021 ! This has still not been fixed and I have been told it is not known who is responsible and it is on someones list to do. I think over 12 months of waiting is an awful service to provide. This is a safety issue as it slows traffic down that enter the village, there has been accidents even on the pelican crossing due to traffic going to fast.
