M42 jct 10 island road markings gone

Reported via mobile in the Road markings category anonymously at 11:27, Wednesday 17 November 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

The 4 Lane markings coming off the m42 North bound around the island are no lo ger visible in parts and undistinguishable at night. The rest of the islands markings are no better. This is a very busy island as there are large distribution centres just off on the A5. This is a hub for HGV Covid 19 testing at the services as well adding to extra HGV traffic. Novice drivers or people who do not know the correct lane to be in, have little or no chance of correct lane management and I have witnessed many near misses. This island's safety has deteriorated noticeably since I have begun using this route due to a house move 6 months ago. I fear with the standard of some drivers now, there is going to be a serious accident or worse fatalities. I cannot understand either, why this island has not been re marked before now, as I notice one report of the numerous for this issue, was January this year. A couple of islands by Atherstone have been re marked recently which were nowhere near as worn as the jct 10 island. Surely jct 10 takes presedence due to volume of traffic and state of use and safety?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the road marking at M42 junction 10.

We are aware of the issues and repair works are planned for the near future. This work was due to be completed a few months ago but unforeseen circumstances meant we had to cancel this work

The issues aren't currently safety critical as the stop/give-way markings are still in place and signs are out to advise of no markings. No lane direction markings are not safety critical.

    Kind regards National Highways

  • I beg to differ about safety critical issue regarding the lanes not being visible. I drive a very small car and the lorries, mainly artics are straddling lines cutting people up, most know where they are going on the island, but lots don't and I or someone else is going to get crushed by a lorry changing lanes inappropriately due to confusion. Is some one or a certain number to be killed before it becomes safety critical?
