Diversion signs leading into road closure due to roadworks

Reported via mobile in the Roadworks category anonymously at 01:00, Wednesday 10 November 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

The A14 from j38 to j42 is currently closed due to roadworks. The diversion sends people to Thetford to then turn around and go for the a134 over the for lorrys allowed road towards Bury St Edmunds. The road leading towards the a134 is closed for roadworks overnight. This leaves Arctic lorrys to do a u turn on a small road. Please change the road signs or make sure the diversion route is not closed as well for roadworks.

  • We live in Watton and drive our to Dereham, Thetford etc. Diversion signs are PROLIFIC. Mostly meaning-less as they lead you astray so much after a while we get to IGNORE them. Norfolk County Council Highways Diversion TEAM do NOT seem to understand what they are doing!

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the diversion route for road closures on the A14.

When Norfolk County Council were doing their work on Elveden Road we changed our diversion route. We sent the traffic on the A11 up to Thetford to join the A134. This meant the diversion avoided the road leading towards the A134 which was closed for roadworks overnight.

For eastbound closures of the A14 we have now returned to diverting the traffic up the A11 to using the B1106, London Road, and Elveden Road to reach the A134.

Thank you again for your report.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
