The temporary traffic lights either need to be manually controlled during Monday to Friday peak periods or have different automated settings dependent on time of day. Since the single line section was increased substantially, northbound traffic faces very long delays in the morning peak period with no delays for the much lower volume of southbound traffic - in the evening peak period, it is the reverse with long queues for southbound traffic which causes delays to other traffic art the A36/B3108/Brassknocker Hill junction. Action is required, particularly in view of the expected length of these particular road works

Thank you for your report concerning of an issue with the traffic lights on the A36 near Monkton. We're sorry that these lights are causing you delays.
We’re aware of the issues with the lights. We're currently waiting on delivery of a vehicle detecting sensor to install on the viaduct. This will make the traffic lights run much more efficiently. We're hoping to have this delivered and resolved within the next 2 weeks.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
Kind regards
National Highways
