Laybys Closed

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 22:50, Sat 23 October 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3080505.

The Laybys on the A12 between Chelmsford and the M25 heading towards London are all closed, as are the ones on the A130. They have been for at least a couple of weeks. Laybys are there for safety reasons, so surely closing them for weeks is dangerous, especially as there is no hard shoulder. What is the reason for keeping them closed?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

I am sorry to hear about your frustrations about the laybys being closed prior to the A421 night closure. Work is currently being undertaken to renew the road markings and studs on the A421. This work is done under a full closure of the A421 over 12 nights from the 1 June.

For the duration of these works the laybys are closed to prevent vehicles parking up and becoming trapped within the road closures. This is for the safety of both road users and our operatives. Once the work is completed the laybys will be re-opened.

Thank you again for contacting us.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
