Incorrect signage causing delays and accidents

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue category anonymously at 18:11, Tuesday 21 September 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

The exit to J9 in the evening is very often clogged up and creates delays on the motorway on the approach to this junction. This is because of traffic volume existing the motorway and clogging up the exit slip road. The largest part of that exiting traffic requires the 3rd exit (right) to the popular Trafford Centre and Trafford Park. However, a large proportion of drivers choose to take lane 1 of 3 to enter the roundabout because the signage incorrectly tells them to choose lane 1 for the Trafford Centre. It should either tell traffic to take lane 1 and lane 2 or it should only be lane 2 - not lane 1 as it does now. This stops local traffic volume for Urmston being able to filter left and prevents enough traffic being able to enter the roundabout to circumnavigate the roundabout to the 3rd exit. Aside from traffic delays, this also creates numerous accidents because many cars which are already on the roundabout are still in lane 2 wanting to exit the roundabout to join the M60 and are fighting to cross the cars who have been told to be in lane 1 on the roundabout but who are not going to exit for the M60. This means cars get broadsided.
