40mph limit on A1307 at Huntingdon

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 20:58, Wednesday 8 September 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

You told one resident that the speed limit would be removed after the works ending on the 22nd of July.

You told me a 28 day defect notice had been raised on the 9th of July.

Not sure which of these was correct but now the corrective work has been completed, please can the 40 and 50mph signs be removed.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England about the reduced speed limit on the A1307.

There is an ongoing 40mph speed limit on the A1307 from Godmanchester leading up to the train station in Huntingdon because we identified that the barriers needed upgrading when we undertook surveys as part of the A14 major project work.

Part of the problem appears to be due to ground movement on the embankment, so finding the best solution is more complicated than it might appear. We started the design process to identify the most effective solution in January. This required further studies and surveys to be programmed and resourced which helps explain why the barriers will not be replaced until spring next year. Once this is done the speed limit will return to 70mph.

Thank you again for your report.

    Kind Regards

    Highways England
