Roadworks abandoned
Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 15:56, Wed 8 September 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2988274.
There are traffic lights on the A36 near the Limpley Stoke junction that are part of a small section of roadworks. They have been abandoned. I've driven along this road for a month now and there has been nobody working on any day. The lights cause long tailbacks at rush hour. The signage all has Forest Exeter on the reverse sides. The contractor needs to either clear or finish the works.

Thank you for contacting Highways England concerning our works on the A36.
Following reports of defects in the footpath adjacent to the A36 between Limpley Stoke Viaduct and Limpley Stoke Village, it has been necessary to close the southbound lane and install a diversion to the footpath into the south-bound lane of the A36. This diversion will allow continual use of the path by pedestrians as well as allow us to undertake assessments as to the nature of the defects.
We are currently assessing the scale of the issue and need to carry out survey works to get to the root cause of the problem. This will involve some invasive ground investigations, in which boreholes will be drilled into the verge, footpath and road, following a series of non-intrusive ground penetrating radar and geo-physical studies work. To this end a series of site visits have been taking place from specialist survey companies who have completed the non-intrusive surveys through specific night closures and are now designing the necessary temporary works needed to ensure that the intrusive surveys and formation of boreholes can be completed safely. Unfortunately, this takes time and we are working to get the remaining surveys on-site as soon as possible in a safe and efficient manner. However, in the intervening time we are actively monitoring the distress by undertaking regular site inspections by our specialist highway inspectors.
Safety is our number one priority and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. If you require any other information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@highwaysengland.co.uk
Kind regards
Highways England
