These have been a 6mth roadworks that been there nearly a year. There are no actual roadworks just a 30mph restriction. Nothing has happened for 6mths. There is just a plague of cones and road signs even one saying road narrows which clearly it does not. We quite often presented by a random traffic in the road. It just looks mess and clearly needs something doing about it I look forward to response please...

Thank you for your enquiry about the works on the A38 in the Glynn Valley. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us on this matter.
Work was undertaken earlier this year to stabilise the embankment and as part of this scheme, a safety barrier was proposed to protect road users from the newly exposed embankment. However, due to the depth and position of a BT duct it was not possible to dig the foundations for the barrier as detailed in the design. It was anticipated that the BT duct could be moved but we needed to review and agree the proposals on site with BT. Due to COVID restrictions which resulted in changes to BT’s internal structure, this site meeting was delayed and to reduce costs our equipment has left site temporarily.
The temporary 30mph speed limit has been retained to reduce the risk of cars leaving the carriageway and will be removed as soon as the barrier is complete. Following complaints we have reduced the extent of the temporary speed limit as much as we can and a sign has been put up stating that the speed limit is place due to an incomplete barrier.
BT have been working with us to resolve the situation but couldn’t risk any potential damage to the ducting. Apart from telephone connections, many more people are relying on their internet connection to work remotely since the start of COVID restrictions and any repairs to a fibre optic cable are time consuming. For this reason we’ve now agreed a revised design which will avoid conflict with the cables and are ready to issue orders for materials. There is an 8 to 12 week lead time on materials which need to be manufactured to order but we hope to be in a position to return to site and complete the work as soon as possible.
We apologise for the ongoing inconvenience this has caused.
We hope this answers your enquiry. If you have any further queries, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@highwaysengland.co.uk
