On the M5 between junction 28 and 29 miss leading signs
Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 20:35, Fri 3 September 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2977726.
We have passed multiple electric speed signs showing 40 and 50 and one showing that the outside 2 lanes were shut when there is no congestion and nothing to slow down for. No one is slowing down for them but 1 person did for a 40 sign and it almost caused a crash. It is extremely unsafe to leave signs like this on when there is no need - they are causing more danger than the old or imaginary issue they are trying to fix. Please turn them off before someone gets hurt!

Thank you for contacting Highways England concerning signage.
A lane 2 and 3 closure was about to be installed and you passed the location between the time of the signal request and the roadworkers being on scene to install the closure.
When 2 of 3 lanes are closed on matrix the system will automatically set a 40mph restriction on approach as a safety measure. This is a national requirement.
When a 40 is set on road the signal prior will automatically be set to a 50mph this is a safety measure.
The matrix were set on road correctly and in place for the safety of the roadworkers and travelling public and is a national policy which is implemented across the country. We cannot comment on driver behaviour but would expect drivers to adhere to the signs and signals set across the network.
